Driven: Maserati Quattroporte GTS 2015 Review

What is the Maserati Quattroporte GTS all about?
The Quattroporte has been around since 1964 and is known in car communities across the globe as a well-established and luxury saloon car. As far as good-looking cars go, the current Quattroporte is near the very top of the list for me.
The Quattroporte is available in 3 different versions, S, Diesel and GTS. With the GTS being the most expensive and highest powered version of the range.
Maserati have taken the Quattroporte to the next level with the range-topping GTS. The GTS features a 3.8-litre V8 engine that creates 523bhp and 650Nm of torque, this means that the car can get from 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds and do a top speed of 190mph. With all this power the car is still capable of achieving 23mpg and puts out 274g of CO2 per km in the process.
How does it drive?
The Maserati GTS is simply incredible. At £115,000 I obviously expected the car to be good, but it hugely exceeded my expectations. You can get into the car with the key in your pocket; by just pulling the door handles the car will unlock itself, once inside simply hit the start button. You will hear the V8 fire up and you are instantly aware that you are sitting in the driving seat of something very special. The Quattroporte GTS creates a very nice exhaust note.
Getting moving in the GTS the car uses an eight-speed automatic gearbox, which can be driven very softly and very smoothly if you choose. But it is worth noting that if you put the car into Sport mode that this same gearbox is also incredibly fast to shift gears.
With performance driving in mind, my preference was to drive the car using the manual gearbox with Sport mode enabled and the suspension set to normal road use. Giving the car full throttle and hitting the up paddle on the steering wheel between 6,500 – 7000rpm you could get the car to make incredible backfires which, believe me, are incredibly satisfying to hear as you are blasting your way towards the horizon. The GTS isn’t a force to be reckoned with, it is exceptionally quick and the amount of available grip was awesome, this is partly down to the rear LSD, traction control system and also it is worth crediting the Pirelli P Zero tyres that take an absolute beating. Throughout my entire test the car produced no unexpected loss of grip and was exceptionally easy to control.
The Quattroporte is a relatively large car weighing in at 1,900kg. It handles incredibly well; I didn’t pick up any body-roll at all.
Even under heavy braking and cornering the car is very nimble and energetic, both are fantastic characteristics for a luxury executive saloon such as this one.
What is it like inside?
As you would expect from the Italian’s the interior is both beautifully designed and tastefully kitted out with only the finest materials. In my opinion I think the Maserati interiors differ greatly from their competitors because of their more complex designs and innovations.
The seats in both the front and rear were beautifully dressed sporting the finest leather. They felt very soft to touch, and were very supportive when it came to cornering the car at speed.
The infotainment system in the car is exceptionally easy to use and offers top of the range features such as a rear-view camera, FM radio, DAB radio, CD, MP3, Bluetooth and phone integration. It is pretty much everything you need for this type of car. If you’re anything like me you probably won’t be listening to music as much as normal, but instead will be listening to the quad exhaust at the rear of the car.
The Quattroporte GTS experience is so heartfelt it’s ridiculous. The car is unquestionably good looking, which captures one part of your heart and the fiery 3.8-litre V8 engine hooks the rest. The car catches you with its beauty and pleasures you with its performance.
The Quattroporte GTS is the most powerful and well equipped production Maserati we have ever seen. The performance of the car is incredibly quick and is executed with great elegance. The overall package means that the Quattroporte GTS meets all of your luxury and performance needs in one compelling product. The Quattroporte GTS also has the advantage of being an exceptionally rare car, meaning that you would be one of only a few people to get to sit behind the wheel of this impressive motor.
